These are my most favorite baby parenting books. If you are pregnant or have a baby I highly recommend the following 5 books.
I bought and read a lot of other books like the Sears family books, Tracey Hogg’s the baby whisperer, Baby Wise by Ezzo and several others that are less popular and not worth mentioning but these books below were my favorite by far.
I found the “attachment parenting” books to be a little too “soft” for my taste (hence the Ferber and Weissbluth who are strict advocates of sleep training). Weissbluth is a little less strict then Ferber (but still tough). You can find an amazing podcast of his on sleep training on ITUNES U from the 92nd St Y-Parenting Experts Series-Dr. Marc Weissbluth.
The Karp and Brazelton books are “gentler” and packed with good advice based on extensive experience.
The “What to Expect” series are a classic in their own right. Even though they have a website, an app and frequent mailings I felt I got more out of the book formats.
I will write at a later point about my sleep training adventures…
Touchpoints-Birth to Three [Paperback]-T. Berry Brazelton (Author), Joshua D. Sparrow (Author

The Happiest Baby on the Block [Paperback]-Harvey Karp
What to Expect the First Year (What to Expect (Workman Publishing)) [Hardcover]Heidi Murkoff
Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child [Hardcover]-Marc Weissbluth

Solve Your Child’s Sleep Problems [Paperback]- Richard Ferber

Definitely agree with Weissbluth’s book. A friend gave me The Baby Whisperer – worked great for her, but a big NO for me. I felt like a failure after reading it and thought she was a bit condescending at times. One day, I just flung it across the room in a tired rage and never picked it up again.
I totally, totally agree…
